Austin Healeys are known for their high torque engines, providing maximum power low in the RPM scale. Despite this, the cars were not geared for high speed cruising. These gears reduce the final ratio by 10% or more, lowering the revolutions at speed and providing for a much more comfortable ride, less wear and tear on the drive train, and better mileage as well. The first and second gears of the cars become much more useful and customers report better acceleration as a result.
